Winston to Cleveland on March 13 Jameis Winston, a former quarterback for the Saints and Bucs, has decided to sign a $4 million, one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns.
After spending five seasons as the starter in Tampa Bay and four as a backup in New Orleans, the former No. 1 overall pick in 2015 is now a member of his third franchise.
Winston became one of just six quarterbacks in NFL history to throw for 5,109 yards in 2019. The others are Dan Marino, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Ben Roethlisberger, and Peyton Manning.
Former Raven After Deshaun Watson and Dorion Thompson-Robinson suffered injuries during the previous season, Joe Flacco joined the Browns as an injury replacement and guided Cleveland to a brief postseason appearance.
Although Flacco stated he would like to return to Cleveland in 2024, the team showed little interest in signing the former Delaware signal caller.
Wilson signs with Pittsburgh on March 10. Russell Wilson of the Denver Broncos has been informed by his team that he is leaving. In search of a franchise signal-caller, other teams are expressing interest, including Pittsburgh Steelers, the Baltimore Ravens’ AFC North rivals.
Wilson reportedly spoke with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith for hours during his “great” visit with the Steelers on Friday, according to Josina Anderson.
The two parties came to an amicable agreement on Sunday night for a team-friendly one-year contract, according to Adam Schefter. A reported $38 million of his salary will come from the Broncos.
Wilson joins an AFC North division that already boasts Deshaun Watson, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson as standout quarterbacks.
