Mike Gesicki, a tight end with the Miami Dolphis and former New England Patriot, has agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $3.25 million with the Cincinnati Bengals, according to a report on Tuesday by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Cincinnati has several reasons to target Gesicki. At 6-foot-6 and 245 pounds, the former second-round choice from Penn State presents quarterback Joe Burrow with a huge target over the middle of the field and in the red zone. For the most part of his career, Gesicki has played in the slot. The Bengals had to find a replacement for Tyler Boyd in the offense now that he was off the field.

During his four seasons as a player, Gesicki caught 231 passes for 2,617 yards and 18 touchdowns with the Miami Dolphins, where he began his career. After that, in 2023, he signed on to play with the New England Patriots, where he caught 29 passes for 244 yards and two scores.

The Bengals have made expenditure reductions at tight end with the addition of Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase on the roster. After a lackluster 2023, Gesicki now has a year to establish himself thanks to this one-year contract. The last three seasons, the Bengals have started a different tight end in CJ Uzomah, Hayden Hurst, and Irv Smith Jr.

Drew Sample, a blocking tight end that the team most recently signed to a three-year contract on Monday, will be teamed with Gesicki.
