The Seattle Seahawks’ playoff fate is no longer in their hands following their 30-23 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Seahawks now have to beat the Arizona Cardinals on the road on Sunday and then hope more results come their way.

After such a promising start, with the Seahawks sitting at 6-3, a four-game skid saw them fall back into the chasing pack. With the postseason out of their control, head coach Pete Carroll will push his team to finish the season with a win no matter what.

The Seahawks have to take care of the Cardinals first and then hope the results go their way. Similar to last season, the Seahawks have no control over their playoff destiny, which was within their grasp before last week’s loss to the Steelers.

Now they will need the Packers to lose or tie the Chicago Bears, or if Seattle is tied with the Cardinals then a loss at New Orleans or a tie with the Atlanta Falcons, coupled with a Packers loss, sends the Seahawks to a fine.

With so many scenarios at play in Seattle’s playoff life, Carroll stressed that he wouldn’t watch the scoreboard while the Packers are playing at the same time.

“No, I won’t watch it,” Carroll said. “We’ll see what they do to get him on the board depending on what’s going on. It does not matter. We are not interested in this at the moment.

We will have enough time to find out what happened. So the path forward for the Seahawks is clear:

focus on what you can control, because any scenario in which they lose to the Cardinals is off the table. Do your business in the wilderness and let the chips fall where they may. Pretty simple, right?
