(CNN) — With 35 points from 2014 NBA MVP Kevin Durant, the Phoenix Suns defeated the Denver Nuggets 117-107 in overtime on Tuesday, pulling off an impressive and surprising victory.
The Nuggets had just gotten back into form after going three games without winning in the middle of February, and they were riding a six-game winning streak going into their matchup with the Suns.
With MVP candidate Nikola Jokic leading the way with 25 points, 16 rebounds, and five assists, the Nuggets appeared to be headed for a seventh straight win until Durant tied the game with just 27 seconds left with a step-back three-pointer.
Before making the game-winning basket in the fourth quarter, Durant had been having trouble with his shooting late in the game. However, he came through at a critical juncture.
According to the NBA, Durant stated, “I knew coming across half-court that this was a “do-or-die” situation and that “I had to make this shot or it might be game.” “On that one, my fundamentals were correct.”It was nice to take it out of my hands. I simply adore hearing the audience fall silent. On the road, that’s always a satisfying feeling.
The Suns put up 15 points in overtime, five of which came from Bradley Beal, and tightened the screws after the Nuggets finished their comeback from a 22-point deficit in the third quarter thanks to a meager 12 points in the fourth quarter.
Murray continued, “This is one of those where we all feel better tomorrow.” “Tomorrow we have a lot more positive energy and better clarity, but today is difficult.”
“Almost everyone didn’t shoot well; it wasn’t just one person.”
The Suns, who are currently sixth in the West and are still battling to avoid the play-in round, win to end a two-game losing streak.
