As the regular season approaches its conclusion, the Philadelphia 76ers are still refining their roster. They intend to do a workout for a former first-round pick who was waived earlier this year, according to recent reports.

Shams Charania tweeted on Friday afternoon that Kai Jones had been brought in by the Sixers for a meeting and workout. In 2021, Jones, 23, was selected with the 19th overall pick. He was waived just before the start of this season, having played his first two years of professional basketball with the Kai Jones s.

When Jones, a 6-foot-11 forward, was given playing time with the Hornets, many were amazed by his athleticism. Last season, he played in 46 games for Charlotte, averaging 3.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 0.3 assists.

Back in October, the Hornets made the decision to waive Jones in response to a number of alarming social media posts. The culmination was asking for a trade outright on Twitter. He remained a free agent after no team chose to claim him off waivers.

Jones has expressed his desire to rejoin the NBA in podcast appearances over the last few months. This recent story suggests that he may get his chance.

Jones might be useful to the appropriate team given his combination of size and quickness and the fact that he is still a young prospect. If he has resolved his off-court problems that surfaced earlier this year, that is the organization’s biggest worry about signing him.
