On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Chargers announced that Eric Kendricks, a former linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings, will be released.
The Minnesota Vikings decided to part ways with veteran linebacker Eric Kendricks around this time last year. Fortunately, Kendricks found a new place to live quickly, as he eventually got hired by the Los Angeles Chargers.
Regretfully, the veteran linebacker needs a new place to call home in the NFL once more. The Chargers declared on Tuesday that they have made the decision to release him.
Although Kendricks initially inked a two-year contract with Los Angeles, he has already left the team after just one season. The Chargers have gained much-needed cap space of $6.5 million with his dismissal.
Eric Kendricks may rejoin former Minnesota Vikings coach after being released by the Los Angeles Chargers.
Following his stint in Los Angeles in 2023, Kendricks has now participated in nine NFL seasons. He played in 15 of the 17 games the Chargers played last season, so durability doesn’t seem to be a major concern for him just yet.
The former Vikings linebacker finished 2023 with 117 tackles (seven for a loss), six pass breakups, 3.5 sacks, and one forced fumble with Los Angeles. Kendricks concluded the 2017 NFL season with the 25th-best defensive grade from PFF out of 82 qualifying linebackers.
He demonstrated in 2023 that he is still capable of producing at a high level, so before hanging up the cleats this year, he’s surely going to at least check to see if he has any interest in free agency.
Given that they recently appointed former Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer to be the team’s new defensive coordinator, the Dallas Cowboys appear to be a potential landing spot for Kendricks. When the Vikings selected Kendricks with a second-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Zimmer was a part of the team.
Will the former linebacker for the Vikings join Zimmer again in Dallas, or will he play for a different team in 2024?
