Broncos Celebrate International Women’s Day by Forming New Partnership
Together with the State Government, the Brisbane Broncos are leading a new initiative to increase the number of women working in manufacturing.
The Miles Government’s Women in Manufacturing (WIM) Strategy and manufacturing vocations will be promoted by Broncos NRLW captain and pioneer Ali Brigginshaw and recently re-signed star Romy Teitzel as part of a new relationship.
Through the 2024 season, neon pink signs supporting the program will be exhibited to both on-site fans and the roughly 6.5 million viewers who tune in to watch each season on television.
Through the school-based mentoring programs Beyond the Broncos, doors will also open to the manufacturing sector.
Brigginshaw, a Beyond the Broncos Ambassador, is excited about the chance to assist in drawing and keeping more women in roles that have historically been filled by men.
Brigginshaw stated, “It’s critical that young girls understand that there are opportunities in traditionally male-dominated fields and that these opportunities are now being given to them.”
“We have over 3000 females in our Beyond the Broncos Programs, so it will provide them the opportunity to work in manufacturing and be a part of it.
“As rugby league players, we are aware that opportunities have not always existed, therefore it is crucial that we provide them now for these young females. If you see other people succeeding, you will too.
“We all attended school just once, and there weren’t these opportunities. Now that I realize how many opportunities there are, that’s why we work here.”
During his meeting with the NRLW stars at Parliament House in Brisbane, Minister for Manufacturing Glenn Butcher emphasized the future prospects.
