Minneapolis, Minnesota (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings, whose hopes of making the playoffs are all but dashed due to ongoing issues at the crucial position, will start quarterback Nick Mullens in their final regular-season game.

Before Wednesday’s practice, coach Kevin O’Connell made his announcement. In order to turn a long shot into a postseason contender, the Vikings must win this Sunday’s game against Detroit in addition to three other NFC games.

In the team’s loss to Green Bay last week, Mullens took Jaren Hall’s place after halftime, following an interception and a fumble by Hall that each led to a Packers touchdown. The Vikings had switched quarterback five times in nine games, beginning with s Kirk Cousins’ruptured Achilles tendon, which completely upended the game.
