Ran Carthon, general manager of the Tennessee Titans, stated at the NFL Combine last week that no one had contacted him regarding the seventh choice in the 2024 NFL Draft.
If it hasn’t already, it looks like at least one team will be contacting soon.
Although the scope of their investigation has not been disclosed, Vic Tafur and Tashan Reed of The Athletic reported that the Las Vegas Raiders had considered trading up for Tennessee’s first-round selection.
The Raiders have looked at trading with teams other than the Titans, though, as Tafur and Reed include the Los Angeles Chargers (with the fifth overall pick) and the New York Giants (with the sixth pick) as potential destinations for a trade up from No. 13 overall.
Even while I believe it is possible, if Joe Alt, Malik Nabers, or Rome Odunze are available, I don’t see the Titans making the trade back. Marvin Harrison Jr. is similarly eligible, but I don’t believe he has much chance of reaching No. 7.
Additionally, Telesco has discussed perhaps dealing for picks in the 5–7 range, which are held by the Tennessee Titans (No. 7), Los Angeles Chargers (No. 5), and New York Giants (No. 6). This kind of deal largely makes sense if it’s a move up for a quarterback like Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, but it could also be made to put the Raiders in position for a later trade up or a player at another premium position.
The Titans should absolutely think about trading back if all four are available since there isn’t a wide receiver or left tackle worth taking that place.
The Titans would presumably receive at least an additional Day 2 pick from the trade, as they presently only have one. Additionally, Tennessee may still defeat Olu Fashanu of Penn State at No. 13 overall.
