For New England professional teams, the Lewiston mass shooting has been very personal.
Head coaches of the Boston Bruins Jim Montgomery and the New England Patriots Bill Belichick talked about the 18-person murder case in which the suspected murderer is still at large.
Belichick claimed to have “many contacts” in the Lewiston region.
Belichick sent reporters his “thoughts and prayers to the people in Maine” on Friday, according to OutKick. “Clearly, this is a horrible circumstance. They are wonderful friends and admirers of ours up there. It’s an excellent location. You undoubtedly feel sorry for them given their circumstances and their agony.
“Many connections between Lewiston and Bowdoin. Many of my friends visited that place. possess a good understanding of the region. Just incredibly difficult and depressing. Here at the Patriots, you’re on our minds.”
During their game against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night, the Bruins had a jersey with the words “LEWISTON STRONG” and the area code “207” hanging on their bench.
Montgomery attended the University of Maine for four years.

“I want to start out by recognizing a horrific and tragic event that happened in Lewiston, Maine, yesterday,” Montgomery stated on Wednesday. “The Boston Bruins extend their sympathies and condolences to the impacted families and victims.
“My own four fantastic years at the University of Maine were spent there. And I am aware of that state’s wonderful culture. And I am aware of the wonderful folks. My sincere condolences go out to everyone who has been affected.”
Only four miles away, at the Schemengees Bar and Grille and the Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley, were the locations of the shootings in Lewiston.
“Trained firearms instructor” Robert Card has been identified by police as the suspect. According to a Maine law enforcement bulletin shared with Fox News Digital, Card recently reported mental health issues, including “hearing voices and threats to shoot up the National Guard Base in Saco, ME.”
