The Alabama Crimson Tide have lost one of their best players to the transfer portal, marking the first casualty of Nick Saban’s retirement.
Only a few days after Alabama announced that Kalen DeBoer had been hired, freshman sensation and safety Caleb Downs has made his way onto the transfer portal. ESPN’s Pete Thamel said that the Crimson Tide defense is taking a serious hit from this.
With 107 tackles at the end of his college football rookie campaign, Downs set a record for the most by an Alabama freshman in more than 50 years. In addition, he received numerous accolades from various publications, including the AP second-team All-America title.
His suitor will instantly get a star in the secondary as he instantly rises to the top of the transfer portal’s defender rankings.
In the second half of their game against Alabama on Saturday, the Tennessee Vols performed about as poorly as they have ever performed under Josh Heupel.
Furthermore, these coaching and playcalling choices were arguably the worst that Heupel has made since joining UT in the early months of 2021.
That, however, ought not to be the storyline following Tennessee’s 34-20 defeat in Tuscaloosa.
And look, I have no doubt that Alabama supporters are rolling their eyes and screaming “excuses” at the top of their lungs already.
However, I refuse to accept that. Not following that fiasco.
When the officials in Tuscaloosa are that biased, it is impossible to win.
