Dylan Larkin injury update: Latest news on Red Wings captain after knocked unconscious by hit to headIt was a scary sight in the Motor City on Saturday as Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin was knocked unconscious during the team’s loss to the Senators.
Larkin left Detroit’s 5-1 loss to Ottawa after suffering two blows to the head at once, and did not return.
The team gave no indication of what the injury might be.Saturday night was supposed to be a night of celebration for the Red Wings as newly signed star Patrick Kane made his long-awaited return to the ice following offseason hip surgery.
However, the Detroit faithful at Little Caesars Arena stood in stunned silence as they watched their captain lie motionless on the ice.
The Red Wings have been a pleasant surprise this season and Larkin has played a big role in that.
The Detroit center was a point-per-game player for the Winged Wheel, recording 11 goals and 25 points in 24 games.
Joseph and Kelly received only minor penalties, but David Perron received a match penalty (to follow automatic exclusion/competition review) for hitting Artem Zeb in the head.
The Red Wings finished the game without their two best centers and only nine forwards. J.T.
Compher missed his second straight game with an unspecified injury, and coach Derek Lalonde dressed eleven forwards and seven defensemen. Kane tied the score at 1-1 in his second game on the power play at 2:49 of the first.
He received a pass from Alex DeBrincat, entered the zone and fired past Joonas Korpisalo from the face-off spot.
However, the Senators took control with three unanswered goals in the second period.
Alex Lyon, who had won his previous four starts, allowed four goals on 25 shots and was replaced by James Reimer early in the third.
It was Reimer’s first appearance since a 5-4 overtime loss to the Senators on Nov. 1. 16 during the NHL Global Series in Sweden.
Larkin and Joseph have a history. While playing for Tampa Bay, Joseph checked Larkin from behind in the glass on October 14, 2021, during the season opener at Little Caesars Arena.
