The Clemson Tigers football team has made some excellent hires in its head coaching staff, but it has also seen some misses. These are the program’s five worst head coaching hires ever.

As I mentioned earlier, many supporters were relieved to learn that Hatfield would not be returning to Clemson following the 1993 football season. The university quickly announced Tommy West as his replacement.

Clemson hired West for a straightforward reason. He had Danny Ford’s appearance. He had Danny Ford’s voice. He had Danny Ford’s style of clothing. He was employed at Clemson by Danny Ford. He was a man from Clemson.

Many supporters would also include Tommy Bowden, West’s replacement, on this list, but it was under Bowden that Clemson discovered it could play offensively on par with any team in the country. Not to add, Bowden brought in Dabo Swinney to train his wide outs.
