According to the Associated Press (via ESPN), Clemson defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm on school property after his arrest last week.

Online records indicate that, according to Jon Blau of the Post and Courier, Capehart was taken into custody on February 6 for “unlawful possession of a firearm on school property” and “failure to exercise due care” while operating a motor vehicle.

According to the Associated Press, Capehart posted a $10,000 bond for the weapons charge and a $232.50 bond for the traffic charge.

The athletic department at Clemson released a statement, saying, “He is not currently participating in team activities while awaiting completion of all league and university processes.”

As a four-star prospect in the 2020 class, Capehart accepted offers from North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida before deciding to sign with the Tigers. In 2024, he intends to play for Clemson for a fifth season.

During the 2023 season, Capehart played in 12 games and recorded one sack, one forced fumble, one pass breakup, 15 tackles, and five tackles for loss.

The Tigers had a 9-4 record at the end of the 2023 season, which included a Gator Bowl victory over Kentucky.

As our new College of Arts and Humanities’ first semester comes to an end, I wanted to highlight a few of the most noteworthy events from the previous few months to highlight our successful launch and highlight the exciting potential we have.

Despite being a “new” college, some of our initiatives have a very long history. For instance, this fall, we commemorated two significant anniversaries.

The Writing Lab commemorated its 40 years of existence. Originally called the Writing Center, the lab is now run by the Department of English, with Chelsea Murdock serving as its talented director. It is located in the Robert M. Cooper Library.
