names appropriate for a Georgia football wide receiver hire. The effect of Bryan McClendon as a coach and recruiter
Bryan McClendon, a former wide receiver for the Bulldogs, is leaving Georgia football two years after rejoining the coaching staff to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Just weeks after winning its first national championship in forty-one years, Georgia paid Miami around $845,000 in a buyout to acquire McClendon.
It was McClendon’s first season back as a Bulldog.
Kirby Smart, the coach, will now select his successor.
The following five details relate to McClendon’s departure, his two years as the wide receivers coach, and potential candidates for the position:
Bryan McClendon, 40, has inside knowledge of Georgia’s NFL prospects. McClendon will be able to provide Tampa Bay with in-depth information about Georgia’s 11 invitees to the NFL combine, particularly two wide receiver prospects: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, a Day 3 prospect, and Ladd McConkey, a potential first-round selection.
McClendon helped both of them grow.
With 58 receptions for 762 yards and seven touchdowns in 2022, McConkey enjoyed a breakout season. However, injuries derailed his last Bulldog season in 2023. Over the previous two seasons, Rosemy-Jacksaint caught 63 passes for 839 yards and six touchdowns in an offense that included tight end Brock Bowers.
With five touchdown catches in two seasons and 29 receptions for 355 yards last season, three-star Dillon Bell has matured into a versatile player.
