People have had one question since the heartbreaking news of former University of Alabama and Denver Broncos running back Ahmaad Galloway’s death in his house back in January.
What did the 42-year-old former football star do?
TMZ reports that Galloway tragically passed away after an overdose accident. The website stated that on Friday, Galloway “died from a lethal combination of fentanyl, ethanol, and xylazine,” according to the Office of the Medical Examiner in St. Louis.
Police discovered Galloway, an eighth-grade teacher at Compton-Drew Middle in St. Louis, on January 9 after receiving a report that he had failed to report for duty.During his freshman season, Galloway played little behind standout Shaun Alexander during his four years at Alabama. However, in 2000, he ran for 881 yards and six more touchdowns as a junior after finishing with 659 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore. Early in his senior season, he sustained a knee injury versus Southern Mississippi that ended up costing him the season.
Nevertheless, Galloway had a strong enough season with the Tide—1,830 yards and 17 touchdowns—that the Denver Broncos selected him in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL Draft, 235th overall. After missing the 2003 season to recover from a knee injury, Galloway was moved to the San Diego Chargers before the 2004 season. It was in 2005 that he made his Frankfurt Galaxy debut.
