The Detroit Lions confirmed the previously reported news that defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs had been waived on Tuesday, along with the announcement that fullback Jason Cabinda will be joining the team again on the practice squad.
After being taken off injured reserve last week, the team cut Cabinda. However, he was able to pass waivers and rejoin the practice squad with the Lions. Earlier this week, Campbell expressed his hope that Cabinda, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Alim McNeill would all be able to participate in the team’s Sunday regular season finale against the Minnesota Vikings.
Campbell stated, “I would love to get C.J. involved, love to get Mac involved, and love to get Cabinda involved.”
Cabinda’s knee injury kept him out of action since Week 3. The lack of a backup fullback on the team has forced the Lions to deploy a variety of players to fill his position, including rookie tight end Sam LaPorta and linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez. With Cabinda back, those players will be able to maintain position, and Detroit will benefit on special teams.
The Lions still have a spot available on their 53-man roster after these two roster adjustments.
This week’s probable activation of McNeill and Gardner-Johnson off injured reserve means the Lions will probably need to make at least one more roster move to make room.
