Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray could be the biggest name to trade before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.
There are a number of suitors for Murray’s services, including the Los Angeles Lakers, but the San Antonio Spurs have also expressed interest in bringing the former All-Star back to where he began his career.
CBS Sports believes a trade for Murray makes sense for the Spurs.“A Murray reunion makes basketball sense here,” CBS Sports wrote.
“The Spurs know what to expect (and possibly how to get the best defense out of him), and they have homecourt advantage because they can send some of their draft picks back to the Hawks, which is pretty important for a team that might need refuel in the coming years.
“Murray was traded from the Spurs to the Hawks in June 2022 for Danilo Gallinari and several first-round picks, but the deal didn’t pay off for Atlanta. Last season the team failed to reach the first round of the play-offs.
That’s why Murray was acquired by this deadline and the Spurs have reason to acquire him.
San Antonio still has some question marks at the point guard position, and some of those concerns are being answered with a Murray trade.
He would form a partnership with Victor Wembanyama that could make Spurs relevant again.
