The Miami Heat are expected to make a trade in the coming weeks, perhaps for a big star player, even if it’s only on the outside at the moment. With a major NBA move already in the works – this week’s Raptors-Knicks blockbuster – the Heat could be under pressure as the rest of the Eastern Conference continues to improve.

For this reason, the possibility of Donovan Mitchell being traded to Miami remains on the back burner. In Bleacher Report, they named Mitchell the Heat’s No. 1 trade target, a guy who can immediately improve the team’s thin backcourt and add a third scorer to carry the offensive load.

Here’s what B/R’s Zach Buckley wrote about the possibility:

“The Heat haven’t yet made any adjustments since losing the Damian Lillard sweepstakes this summer, but they could still be looking for a high-end photo: be a creator.”

If the Cavs were to ever trade Donovan Mitchell, they might not find more young talent than Miami could potentially offer, assuming the Heat are willing to part ways with all three: Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Nikola Jovic.

Trading Donovan Mitchell would be expensiveAnnouncementAs with every Heat rumor that surfaces, it’s pretty easy to pick holes in a Donovan Mitchell trade.

For starters, the Heat have sent a pretty consistent message that they appreciate what they have on hand and aren’t going out of their way to make upgrades.

On the other hand, even though the Miami Heat are a luxury tax-paying organization this year, they will want to limit future financial obligations as new, more restrictive CBA rules take effect.

Mitchell is in the third year of a five-year, $163 million contract with a player option after next season.
