Nick Saban, the football coach of Alabama, had a wish that he hoped would come true after watching his team lose to Michigan in the Rose Bowl on Monday night. Had his squad performed a bit better, Saban expressed his wish that he would have won the Rose Bowl, which he so much wanted.
“We really appreciate all the Rose Bowl folks who did a wonderful job of creating some really, really fine hospitality for us all week long,” Saban said after the game, according to The Athletic. “I just wish that we could have finished a little better.”
Previously, Nick Saban was a coach in the Big Ten Conference, which sends its winner to the Rose Bowl. Saban coached at Michigan State for a number of years, but he was never able to bring home a Rose Bowl victory. During his time at Alabama in 2020, he did manage to win one. After losing to Michigan, Saban reaffirmed his admiration for the Rose Bowl contest.
“It was always unique,” Nick Saban continued.
Alabama lost 27–20 to Michigan in a thrilling overtime match. Alabama’s dreams of winning a national championship were dashed when they were stopped on a fourth down play a few yards short of the end zone. After beating Georgia in the SEC Championship, Alabama football managed to sneak into the College Football Playoffs this year. Alabama has a 12-2 record as the year comes to an end. Since the 2020 campaign, the school has not taken home a national championship.
Michigan advances to play Washington in the national championship game. On Monday, the two teams play each other.
