The most recent Jets defence to be selected to the Pro Bowl is Jermaine Johnson.
The pass-rushing linebacker, who was initially listed as an alternate, entered the NFL’s Pro Bowl Games on Tuesday to take Khalil Mack’s position, the star of the Chargers who was injured.
The second-year pro Johnson, who set career highs with 7.5 sacks, 55 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 16 quarterback hits, was selected for his first Pro Bowl. In addition, he recorded his first forced fumble, fumble recovery, and NFL interception, which he returned for a touchdown.
Following his nomination, Johnson posted on social media, saying, “All glory to GOD.”
The Jets are travelling to Sunday’s Pro Bowl Games with Johnson, a 2022 first-round selection out of Florida State, joining cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.
Johnson, 25, made his debut with the Jets in 2023 as a full-time starter after seeing action in just 22% of defensive snaps.
Johnson declared that the year was “not my standard” even after his breakthrough campaign, and he intended to “work as hard as I’ve ever worked” this summer.
Regarding what he views as his benchmark, Johnson stated this month, “Every time I think I’ve reached it, I just keep pushing.” “I’m not sure. I simply keep pushing myself, and I know that by the time everything is said and done, I would have given it my all.
Despite not recording an interception this season, Gardner—who was selected fourth overall in the same draft as Johnson—performed admirably as a lockdown corner. Now, he has been selected an All-Pro in each of his two NFL seasons and has appeared in the Pro Bowl.
