An arrest has been made in Bolton of a man wanted on recall to jail.

Iain Purslow, the supporter who went into what appeared to be a heart arrest during Saturday’s match against Cheltenham, has sadly gone away, according to Bolton.

At the Toughsheet Community Stadium, Purslow, 71, was given CPR by paramedics and medical staff after referee Sunny Gill called time on the game in the 29th minute.

The game was called off due to a medical emergency, with Purslow being sent to the hospital for additional care. On Sunday afternoon, Bolton did, however, confirm Purslow’s passing.

“Bolton Wanderers is deeply saddened to confirm that the fan taken ill at yesterday afternoon’s home fixture against Cheltenham Town has passed away,” the club said in a statement.

Iain Purslow, a lifelong fan, is thought to have had a heart arrest in the first half of the match.

“Medical personnel and paramedics at the stadium performed continuous CPR on the 71-year-old until he was transported to the hospital, where he sadly passed away.

“Iain, who is from Oldham, came to the game with his son Stuart to cheer for the Whites.

“Club Chaplain Phil Mason remained with family members later in the day and the Club will continue to offer the family all the support and care they can – as well as looking to offer support to anyone else impacted by this distressing incident.

“The thoughts of everyone connected to Bolton Wanderers are with Iain’s family and loved ones at this incredibly sad time.
