Phil Parkinson has resigned as manager of Bolton, adding to the chaos at the Sky Bet League One club.
Parkinson, who had been at the helm for just over three years, and his assistant Steve Parkin have resigned as off-field problems continue to plague them.
A Bolton spokesperson said: “The club has received the resignations of manager Phil Parkinson and assistant manager Steve Parkin and the matter is being investigated.
“Wanderers are awaiting the completion of a takeover by Football Ventures, which was blocked by a court ruling from Laurence Bassini, who attempted to buy the club earlier this year.
And while the problem persists, Wanderers are affected on the field, having been forced to field a team full of young players in their opening matches.
After being beaten 5-0 at Tranmere on Saturday, Wanderers postponed their game against Doncaster on Tuesday night as they felt returning to the youth team would be “detrimental to both their well-being and development”.
Parkinson was responsible for 156 games and led the team to promotion to League One in 2018 after being under a transfer embargo all season.
He kept the club in the Championship for two years but was embroiled in a constant battle with the club’s off-field drama.
The 51-year-old had hoped the takeover project would be completed well before the start of the season, but once blocked by Bassini, Parkinson felt his time at the club was up.
