The World Snooker Tour’s decision to stage an event in Saudi Arabia using a “golden ball” that might raise the maximum break to 167 has the support of Ronnie O’Sullivan.
March will see the first-ever Riyadh Season World Masters of Snooker, including O’Sullivan among the field of ten players together with the remaining eight world champions and two wildcard entrants.
Additionally, it has been revealed that there will be a golden ball in the non-ranking competition called the “Riyadh Season ball.” This ball will be worth 20 points, but it cannot be potted until a player reaches a maximum break of 147.
As of right now, it’s unclear if players would be fined for hitting the golden ball during play, or if it will stay on the table the entire time.
O’Sullivan, who defeated Judd Trump in the World Grand Prix on Sunday to take home his fourth trophy of the year, says he is excited to play in Saudi Arabia and hasn’t ruled out the possibility of adding a 23rd ball to the table.
Judd Trump supported the inclusion of a golden ball last week as well.
It is entirely distinct. The world No. 2 stated, “Hopefully, all the players can support their attempt at something different.”
“I believe that every player aspires to be the pioneer, so accomplishing this would be a wonderful accomplishment for me.”
