Matheus Cunha, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ forward, has been banned and fined by the Football Association (FA) following an incident after a match against Ipswich Town.
On December 14, 2024, after Wolves’ 2-1 defeat to Ipswich, Cunha was involved in a confrontation with an Ipswich staff member. Reports indicate that he elbowed the staff member and removed their spectacles. The FA charged Cunha with misconduct for acting “in an improper manner” during this altercation.
An independent Regulatory Commission found Cunha guilty and imposed a two-match suspension and an £80,000 fine. Consequently, he missed Wolves’ Premier League match against Nottingham Forest and their FA Cup tie against Bristol City.
This incident adds to a series of disciplinary issues at Wolves, including altercations involving other players. Newly appointed head coach Vítor Pereira emphasized the importance of discipline and responsibility to maintain focus and control emotions.
Despite these challenges, Cunha has been a key player for Wolves this season, contributing 10 goals and four assists in 19 league appearances. His absence due to the suspension has been a significant setback for the team.
