Bolton Wanderers announce fan has died following cardiac arrest during matchFan Iain Purslow has sadly died aged 71 after suffering a cardiac arrest during Bolton’s League One match against Cheltenham.
Bolton have confirmed that Iain Purslow, the supporter who reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest during the first half of Saturday’s match against Cheltenham, has sadly died.
Purslow, 71, received resuscitation treatment from medical staff and paramedics at Toughsheet Community Stadium after the match was stopped by referee Sunny Gill in the 29th minute.
Due to the medical emergency, the game was abandoned and Purslow was taken to the hospital for further treatment. However, Bolton confirmed on Sunday afternoon that Purslow had died.
A club statement said: “Bolton Wanderers are deeply saddened to confirm that the supporter who fell ill yesterday afternoon during the home match against Cheltenham Town has passed away.
“Perennial fan Iain Purslow suffered a suspected cardiac arrest during the first half of the match.“The 71-year-old underwent lengthy resuscitation treatment by the stadium’s medical and paramedical staff before being taken to hospital where he tragically died.
“Iain, who lives in Oldham, was at the match with his son Stuart to support the Whites.
Club chaplain Phil Mason remained with relatives later today and the club will continue to offer the family all the support and care possible – and we would also like to offer support to anyone affected by this distressing incident.
“The thoughts of everyone associated with Bolton Wanderers are with Iain’s family and loved ones at this incredibly sad time.
