While Glenn Thomas’ appointment as the quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator appears to be the greatest personnel news for Husker football this offseason, Matt Rhule is expected to finalize another significant hire.
Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reports that sources indicate Rhule plans to appoint Anthony Crespino, the general manager of TCU, as director of football operations.
Gordon Thomas, who departed following the 2023 season after playing a key role in the day-to-day operations of the program, had previously held that title.
For the previous two years at TCU, including the Horned Frogs’ 2022 run to the national championship game, Crespino served as general manager. In addition, he collaborated with TCU coach Sonny Dykes for the four years prior, working as Dykes’ chief of staff at SMU from 2018 to 21.
Prior to that, he worked at Texas State and Northwestern. In 2014, he also served as James Franklin’s director of player development at Penn State. In 2013,
According to a source, Nebraska promoted Keith Williams to director of player personnel in addition to this anticipated hire.
he also served as P.J. Fleck’s director of operations.
CJ Cavazos, the director of football relations and pro liaison, and Omar Hales, the director of player personnel, are no longer employed in the recruiting process or listed in the Husker athletics directory.
Glenn Thomas, who began working in Lincoln on Monday after concluding his tenure as an offensive coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers last Monday, is the only official hiring that Rhule has addressed thus far.
The spring semester begins on Monday, which also means that winter workouts are underway.
