Brandon Brown, Joe Schoen, Sports Illustrated, and Other “Things I Think”Some random thoughts for a winter Sunday without Giants footballWhile we wait for Sunday’s playoff games, here are some New York Giants-related “things I’m thinking about” to consider for Sunday.

Congratulations Antonio PierceI was happy to see Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis come to his senses and hand over the head coaching job to former Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce.

When he was a giant, Pierce coached on the field. As the interim coach of the Raiders, he delved into what the Raiders should be and did a great job.

Former Giants coach Tom Coughlin approved the hire:Is Brandon Brown moving forward?

Since it was reported Saturday afternoon, it may have gone largely unnoticed that Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown had a second interview with the Carolina Panthers for their GM job. Brown also recently interviewed for the GM position with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Still just 35, Brown was considered a fast-riser in front office circles when Joe Schoen poached him from the Philadelphia Eagles to become his second in command.

When Schoen hired him, he said Brown “has a strong reputation in the league as a leader, evaluator and consensus builder.

“After just two years as Schoen’s front office wingman, Brown is already being seriously considered for the chance to run his own show.

So as Brian Daboll reshapes his coaching staff ahead of a crucial third season for the Schoen-Daboll regime, it’s possible that Schoen will move forward without a key member of his staff.

Speaking of Joe Schoen…Sunday marks two years since Schoen was hired by the Giants. With one good and one bad season under their belt, Schoen – along with coach Brian Daboll – faces a crucial third season in 2024.

When Schoen was hired, it looked like he and Daboll had a long rebuild ahead of them. Then the Giants surprised by going 9-7-1 and winning a playoff game.

In his end-of-season press conference, Schoen seemed to admit that this incredibly successful first season had changed the approach to building the second-year roster.
