Although Glenn Thomas, the new quarterbacks coach at Nebraska, may not be well known to the public, he is well known in the coaching community. Those who are aware of his work are actually very complimentary.
On Tuesday morning, rumours on social media began to spread that Thomas would be the Huskers’ new quarterback coach. Soon after, rumours about the new Cornhuskers assistant coach’s background began to circulate.
To begin with, he is among the most seasoned offensive coordinators for the Nebraska football team. His coaching career began in 2004, but he most recently served as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive assistant coach.
When he accepted the position of quarterbacks coach at Temple in 2015, his coaching career initially intersected with Matt Rhule’s. He was elevated to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach the next season. Along with Rhule, he joined the Baylor Bears in 2017 and served as the quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator for three seasons.
Another Power 5 offensive coordinator praised him highly for his tenure there on Tuesday. As co-OC with Thomas at Baylor, Jeff Nixon expressed to the Omaha World-Herald his confidence that Thomas would succeed in Lincoln.
Nixon stated, “I am aware that he works hard to coach the quarterbacks.” Our quarterback play was consistently strong. He is meticulous, holds himself to a high standard, and never lets anything slip. He ensures that the quarterback understands our goals for each play.
The football coach at Nebraska is well-regarded and experienced.
It’s evident that head coach Matt Rhule wasn’t satisfied with the status quo going into 2024 after a year in which the Nebraska football quarterbacks led the country in turnovers.
Thomas was available now that the Steelers’ season was officially over. The action confirms rumours that have been circulating online for several weeks.
Marcus Satterfield, the offensive coordinator, can now return to his original position of coaching since Glenn Thomas has been hired to tutor the tight ends.
