With a change of heart, the Miami Hurricanes quarterback situation has changed 180 degrees.

Cameron Ward is withdrawing from the 2024 NFL Draft and coming to Miami, and the Hurricanes should now be a real contender in the Atlantic Coast Conference and beyond.

In a new episode of the Eye on the U podcast, David Wilson and Miami Herald Hurricanes writer Susan Miller Degnan react to the shocking news and discuss what it means for Miami in 2024.

Without Ward, the Hurricanes faced one of the worst quarterback situations in the ACC. Today, Miami has one of the best in the country.

Ward changes everything for the Hurricanes, who were in jeopardy of starting the 2024 college football season with quarterbacks Jacurri Brown, Emory Williams, Judd Anderson and Reese Poffenbarger transferring to Miami from FCS Albany on Jan. 8 and competing for the job.

Instead, Miami is bringing in Ward, who threw for 27 touchdowns and ran for eight more at Washington State last year, and could have been picked in the top half of this year’s NFL Draft if he had stayed there.

When he withdrew from the draft on Saturday, Ward shook the ACC and perhaps even the College Football Playoff picture.

The CFP will expand to 12 teams this year and the Hurricanes should have one of the best rosters in the country on paper.

With Ward, a seven-win leap to Playoff contention isn’t entirely impossible to imagine. Without him there was practically no possibility.

Mario Cristobal found the man he wanted and now the coach has to do something with him.

As always, thanks for listening and be sure to stay tuned for episodes throughout the rest of this busy offseason as one of the most anticipated springs in recent Miami history quickly approaches.
