David Wagner is looking forward to a historic moment when his Norwich City team visits Anfield to play Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the Emirates FA Cup.
With a 3-1 victory away at Bristol Rovers on Wednesday, Norwich moved on to the fourth round and will now play a clash against the Reds on January 28.
Since they were teammates as players at FSV Mainz 05 in the 1990s, Wagner and Klopp have a close relationship. Now, as managers, they will face off once more, as they did when Wagner was in charge of Huddersfield Town.
“We’re through, but I haven’t checked my messages yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jürgen has already gotten back to me.” Wagner stated after the Canaries’ victory over Bristol Rovers.
“It will be wonderful to have a little reunion with Jürgen as I haven’t seen him in person since his birthday celebration last year.
“But it’s not about us; it’s about making sure my team represents Norwich City well at Anfield,” I said.
“My players will be thrilled to face the best players in the Premier League, and a tie at Anfield is a really big prize for us.” However, my guys shouldn’t be afraid of it, and I’ll be assuring them that we’ll go for it.
“We will be ready and will give a good account of ourselves, but there are important Championship games between now and Liverpool. It will be a great game.”
