Pete Carroll’s departure leaves Seahawks Nation mourning. Former Seahawk great Lofa Tatupu reflects.
Lofa Tatupu discusses Pete Carroll’s exit from the Seattle Seahawks and his feelings about it.
Former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu joined the discussion on a recent Take 12 podcast episode to offer his opinions on the unexpected announcement that Pete Carroll would be leaving his position as head coach of the Seahawks.
Tatupu started by narrating how the texts started rolling in as soon as he got the breaking news alert. Like many Seahawks fans, he was surprised by how abrupt the decision was made. After more than ten years as a key member of the squad, Pete Carroll’s departure signalled the end of a period in which the team enjoyed great success.
Tatupu admitted that the squad was close to completing a deep playoff run and even competing for a second Super Bowl title. It would surely be difficult to fill the vacuum left by the experienced coach’s departure because he had established an excellent culture in Seattle.
Although Lofa Tatupu was shocked by the news, she nevertheless understood that change was inevitable, particularly considering Pete Carroll’s advanced age. Carroll, who was 72 years old at the time, had already had a distinguished coaching career and had led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory in 2014. Tatupu realised that time moves on for everyone and that there is never a perfect moment to split ways with a legend, be it a coach or a player.
