Former Bills WR Mike Williams’ cause of death revealedA coroner’s report found that former Buffalo Bills receiver Mike Williams died of a rare form of sepsis.

Former Buffalo Bills receiver Mike Williams died in September from a rare form of sepsis, according to the Hillsborough County (Florida) medical examiner’s report released Friday.

More specifically, the report states that the exact cause of death was “bacterial sepsis with brain abscesses and necrotizing lobar pneumonia due to multiple cavities and retained tooth roots.”

The condition is rare, as it is the first death attributed to it in Hillsborough County, according to the Associated Press, but it is linked to poor dental health and infections.

The report also lists “arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease” as a contributing cause of death.

The full results of the autopsy and toxicology tests are still unknown as the report is only preliminary, but use of marijuana, alcohol (social), and Kratom has been reported.

A native of Buffalo, Williams first came to prominence with an outstanding college career at Syracuse.

In three seasons with the Orange, the receiver racked up 2,044 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns while averaging more than 15 yards per reception.

Williams then entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2010.

His rookie season was the best of his professional career with 964 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns to finish second as Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Williams then returned to Western New York to spend his fifth and final NFL season with the Bills.

In nine games in Buffalo, Williams had eight receptions for 142 yards and a touchdown.

After being released by the Bills, Williams signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016 in an attempt to return to the NFL.

However, the Chiefs released him before the start of the regular season.
