When a team has a losing season and doesn’t make the playoffs, there’s a lot of regret and that’s certainly the case for the Las Vegas Raiders, who went 8-9 in the 2023 season.
But when the team looks back on the season, its regret the bigger one could be that of not having taken advantage of having played more games against the worst teams in the league than against the best.
The Raiders weren’t bad against bad teams, but the problem was that they weren’t good against better teams, even though they played fewer games against good teams.
The Raiders played seven games against 14 playoff teams and went 2-5 in those games.
Against other teams ranked in the top 14 (the Raiders pick No. 13), the Raiders have played 10 games.
They went 6-4 in those games. You never know how tough the Raiders’ 2024 schedule will be.
They have seven teams ranked in the top 15 of the draft. They play eight games against 2023 playoff teams, including five on the road.
The Las Vegas Raiders have fired head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager David Ziegler, the team announced Tuesday.
“After carefully considering what the Raiders need moving forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave. I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best,” Raiders owner Mark Davis said in the release.
Las Vegas named linebackers coach Antonio Pierce and assistant general manager Champ Kelly as interim head coach and general manager, respectively.
