For their open head coaching vacancy, the Los Angeles Chargers conducted an interview with Brian Callahan, the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals, on Tuesday. In 2023, Callahan wrapped off his fifth season leading the Cincinnati offence; during that time, the team made two trips to the AFC Championship Game and a trip to Super Bowl LVI.

The starting quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a season-ending wrist injury in mid-November, which prevented the Bengals from making the playoffs this season, despite finishing 9-8 overall. Cincinnati dropped from seventh and eighth place, respectively, in 2022 to 16th place in 2023 in terms of scoring offence (21.5 points per game) and overall offence (318.9 yards per game).

Callahan, 39, is the son of Bill Callahan, the former head coach of the Oakland Raiders. After serving in the same capacity with the Detroit Lions from 2016 to 2017, Brian Callahan was the quarterbacks coach for the Raiders in 2017. Callahan has also conducted interviews for positions with thennessee Titans Te and Atlanta Falcons. Later this week, he has an interview scheduled with the Carolina Panthers as well. On December 15, the Chargers fired general manager Tom Telesco and head coach Brandon Staley.

When the next league year starts on March 13th, 20 players on the Cincinnati Bengals roster are scheduled to become free agents in the NFL in 2024.

The most well-known players scheduled to become unrestricted free agents are wide receivers Tee Higgins, Trenton Irwin, and Tyler Boyd; defensive tackle DJ Reader; and offensive tackle Jonah Williams.

Naturally, before these players become free agents, the Bengals have the option to re-sign them or utilise the franchise tag on any of them. However, for the time being, Over The Cap has compiled a list of every Bengals player who is expected to enter one of the three categories of free agency.
