Kaizer Chiefs are looking to strengthen their playing squad ahead of next season, and are searching high and wide.
Chiefs have already strengthened their coaching department, with a full new technical staff now at the helm.c
The Chiefs squad has areas that have been in glaring need of an upgrade for a while now. That notion has been further enhanced by the activities of last week. The club announced that five players had been deemed surplus to requirements. Keagan Dolly, Sifiso Hlanti, Siyethemba Sithebe, Njabulo Ngcobo and Jasond Gonzalez were all released. That meant spots opened up on the wing, midfield, central defence, left back and upfront.
The one position that Chiefs are believed to be covered in, is right back. When everybody is fit, Reeve Frosler is seen as the first choice. Depending on the coach’s thinking, Zitha Kwinika or Dillan Solomons are usually his alternative. But according to KickOff.com. That has not stopped Amakhosi’s management from entering the market in that position.
“KickOff has learned that Kaizer Chiefs have joined the race to sign defender Thabang Matuludi from Polokwane City. Matuludi is on the wanted list of both Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC. Amakhosi are believed to have already submitted an offer to Rise and Shine in an attempt to sign the player in order to bolster their squad for next term.” Wrote the publication.
A source speaking to the same publication also confirmed that Chiefs are dealing with City’s chairman to try lure Matuludi.
“Chiefs are keen to sign Thabang Matuludi. It’s very interesting if Polokwane City will accept their offer for Matuludi. The owner of Polokwane City is a difficult person to deal with regarding the issue of selling players,” said the source.
That would seemingly make it two players from City that Chiefs are interested in. Besides Matuludi, their interest in winger Oswin Appollis has been widely publicised.
