Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale and the New York Giants have parted ways after coach Brian Daboll fired two of his most trusted assistant coaches.
The Giants, coming off a disappointing 6-11 season, announced their split Wednesday after more than a day of discussions about how to handle the final year of Martindale’s contract.
He is expected to earn around $3 million in 2024.No details about the split have been released.
A separation agreement could limit the teams the longtime coordinator could join if he’s hired elsewhere next season. There were reports that the 60-year-old Martindale had resigned Monday following the firing of outside linebackers coach Drew Wilkins and defensive assistant Kevin Wilkins, brothers with whom Martindale worked in Baltimore and who were hired by him after accepted the Giants job. .
But Martindale never resigned, according to general manager Joe Schoen.
