Did anyone have an inking of expectation over the LA Rams record setting performance last season by WR Puka Nacua? If they did, they certainly learned how to keep a secret. But where setting NFL or team records were few and far between, it seems as though they are happening more and more frequently. After all, the record setting performance of WR Cooper Kupp just occured in the 2021 NFL season. Two years later, rookie WR Puka Nacua broke the NFL record for rookie receivers.

That seems a bit more often than expected.

The thing is, record setting performances are not intended to be bi-annual occurrences. At the most optimistic expectations, one record flirted with or broken every decade is pretty good. So has something changed so dramatically for the team that record setting is an annual expectation?

Well, believe it or not, setting rookie records in 2024 is going to be a very difficult feat. After all, NFL All-Time rookie records are not exactly easy to come by.

LA Rams fans are probably the most appropriate NFL fanbase to realize how rare setting the All-Time Rookie Rushing Record is. After all, it was Rams rookie Eric Dickerson who did so by carrying the pigskin for 1808 rushing yards in 1983. But he had help, as he carried the football 390 times that year.

Most NFL offenses do not hand the ball off to their running backs that often, let alone to a rookie. But the 1980s were a different time in the NFL, a time when running the football was the consensus offensive strategy. While the team has every reason to believe that Corum will be a huge plus in 2024, don’t look for any records from him.
