After watching their best defence go down with a knee injury on Saturday, the Pittsburgh Steelers are a different team.

T.J. Watt’s older brother, J.J. Watt, announced on X, the former name of Twitter, on Sunday that his younger brother had suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain.

“Perfect situation for TJ,” J.J. stated. “Everything else appears immaculate. a few weeks off for recuperation.”

Given that schedule, Watt will probably miss the opening round of the playoffs if the Steelers do advance. For Pittsburgh to go to the postseason, the must either lose or tie, or the Buffalo Bills must lose.

Tyler Huntley, the quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, rolled out as Watt was watching a play and jumped up to try to bat down a pass. Watt was struck in the left knee by teammate Montravius Adams as he landed. As teammates knelt around Watt, worried looks crossed their faces. Watt remained down.

After visiting the medical tent, Watt strolled leisurely back towards the locker room. His gloves were off, a sign that his day was over. Watt would have undoubtedly made a comeback if he had been able to, given that the Steelers were vying for a postseason berth in Week 18.

Watt’s original diagnosis, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, was a sprained MCL. Watt expressed his desire to return to the game, but the Steelers administration refused to permit it. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Watt is thought to have had a Grade 3 sprain on Saturday, which is a serious injury that may sideline Watt for several weeks.

It was a significant day for Watt. Upon receiving his 19th sack, he assumed the NFL lead. That changed some history and placed him in a position to create more.

Then the damage occurred. Perhaps the best defensive player in the NFL, Watt is also the best player for the Steelers. During Saturday’s game, the Steelers had more concerns than just whether they would make the playoffs.
