COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State began its postseason run on Monday by carding a 1-over 289 in the opening round of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional at the University Club in Baton Rouge, La.

That has the Buckeyes in third place in the 14-team field. The top 5 teams at the end of play on Wednesday will advance to the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, Calif., later this month.

Individually, Neal Shipley led the way with a 2-under 70. He made four birdies and two bogeys on his opening nine and then matched two bogeys with two birdies on his closing nine to post his 18th round this season at par or better. He starts the second round in a tie for fourth.

Adam Wallin has been steady all season and he was again on Monday. He made four birdies and 11 pars in his round of 1-under 71. That was his team-leading 20th round at par or better this season. He is tied for ninth heading into the second round.

Redshirt-freshman Tyler Sabo got off to a hot start and was able to come home with a 1-over 73 in his first postseason round. He’ll start tomorrow tied for 22nd.

Seniors Jackson Chandler and Maxwell Moldovan rounded out the Buckeye five with rounds of 75 and 78, respectively. Chandler was 4-over through his first six holes on Monday but rallied to play 1-under par the rest of the way.

The Buckeyes will again start the second round off the 10th tee at 9:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday. They are paired with Duke and Texas Tech. Virginia ran out to the early lead at 8-under par and then teams 2-10 are within a 10-shot spread.
