Chris Paul, the guard for the Golden State Warriors, suffered a broken hand during their 113-109 victory over the Detroit Pistons.
Paul’s team later stated that he need surgery after Paul suffered the injury in the third quarter of Friday’s game and was unable to play again.
After joining the Warriors in June, the 38-year-old has averaged 8.9 points and 7.2 assists in 32 games this season.
Steve Kerr, the coach of the Warriors, expressed his sympathy for Chris.
“I know he’s had a few hand surgery in the past, possibly on the other hand.
“I became concerned as soon as I noticed he was holding it. I’m sorry for Chris, but I’m sure that other men will step up and be prepared to participate.
“We’ve got to hold down the fort without him.”
This close loss kept up the Pistons’ terrible season, which included them matching the longest losing streak in NBA history.
Late in the game, Warriors star Stephen Curry scored 14 of his 26 points to help reverse the Pistons’ 103-102 lead.
In other news, the Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Memphis Grizzlies 127-113, their fourth straight loss.
The struggling Grizzlies won their second game in six with 31 points from Jaren Jackson Jr. and 29 points from Marcus Smart, who made eight three-pointers.
Even though LeBron James scored 32 points and Anthony Davis scored 31, the Lakers’ dismal performance, which has seen them lose 10 of their previous 13 games, could not be turned around.
The Orlando Magic defeated the Denver Nuggets, the reigning NBA champions, 122-120 in the final seconds thanks in large part to Paolo Banchero.
After the Magic rallied, the Nuggets led by eighteen points at the end of the third quarter. Banchero finished with 32 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists, and made four free throws in the last 34.6 seconds to seal the victory.
Conversely, the Boston Celtics crushed the Utah Jazz 126–97, led by 30 points from Jayson Tatum, 19 from Kristaps Porzingis, and 14 from Jrue Holiday.
Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards were the stars as the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Houston Rockets 122-95. Towns added 22 points, eight rebounds, and six assists to Edwards’ 24 points.
In the Indiana Pacers’ 150-116 victory over the Atlanta Hawks, Tyrese Haliburton, who also scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds, dishevelled out 18 of the team’s franchise-high 50 assists.
