Both the home favorite Jannik Sinner and the third-ranked Carlos Alcaraz have withdrawn from the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome due to injuries. Alcaraz was scheduled to play in the most recent ATP 1000 event in Rome, which will be televised live on Sky Sports Tennis from May 8–19. The Spaniard was hoping to recover from his quarterfinal loss in Madrid on Wednesday. However, Andrey Rublev ended the reigning Wimbledon champion’s hopes of a threepeat at home when he won 4-6 6-3 6-2 in the Manolo Santana Stadium.

Alcaraz, 20, confirmed on social media that he would not be able to recover in time to play in Rome after complaining of arm pain during the tournament and needing to wear strapping during the loss.
