(25News Now) — PEORIA The River City is having a thrilling day. Hundreds of supporters will swarm downtown Peoria to celebrate the Rivermen’s President’s Cup victory in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).

Friday at 5:30 p.m., the joyous procession will begin at the Gateway Building and proceed up Main Street to Jefferson Avenue.

Following the parade, there will be a cup celebration in Peoria Civic Centre Exhibit Hall A-B.

Fans can watch the on-stage ceremony with the Rivermen, where Alec Hagaman, a native of Peoria and captain of the team, will present the President’s Cup, for free.

The Rivermen’s coach, Jean-Guy Trudel, expressed his gratitude to the team’s supporters for their past season.

“In particular, Sunday was our third game in four days; we played a lot of hockey, including a lot of stressful hockey. Coach Trudel said, “Having them there to support us gave us the energy we needed to take that 3-1 lead and just keep going with it in the first period.”

He goes on to say that Peoria is just as much of the team’s success as it is, and he hopes the team’s supporters will have the same enthusiasm on Friday.
