A huge wave of excitement would sweep through the Newcastle Knights community if club legend Paul Harragon, “The Chief,” were to return to the organisation in a senior coaching or leadership role.
Harragon remains one of the most respected figures in Knights history. He captained Newcastle to their historic 1997 premiership, the club’s first major title, and continues to have a strong connection with the players and supporters.
However, there is currently a official confirmation that Justin Holbrook has appointed Harragon as the Knights’ new senior coach or senior coaching staff member. The Knights officially list Justin Holbrook as their NRL head coach, while their 2026 coaching group includes Brett White, Steven Hales and Danny Buderus as assistant coaches.
Harragon has nevertheless remained closely involved with the club. In July 2026, he was present at McDonald Jones Stadium, presented debutant Lachlan Crouch with his Once-A-Knight Old Boys cap and addressed the team. Holbrook also spoke about how important it was to have “Chief” around the club.
