In a moment that has sparked excitement among Knicks supporters, franchise legend Patrick Ewing is once again part of the New York Knicks organization — this time in a role away from the playing court.

According to the Knicks, Ewing returned to the organization in October 2024 as a basketball ambassador, assisting with both basketball and business operations.

The move represents an emotional homecoming for one of the most important figures in Knicks history. Ewing spent 15 seasons with New York, becoming the franchise’s all-time leader in points, rebounds, blocks, steals and games played. His iconic No. 33 jersey was retired by the Knicks in 2003.

Ewing’s connection with New York remains incredibly strong. During the Knicks’ 2026 playoff run, he was among the franchise legends regularly celebrated at Madison Square Gardens

The timing is especially significant because the Knicks have entered a new era under Mike Brown, who became head coach in 2025. Brown subsequently guided New York to the 2026 NBA championship, giving the franchise its first title since 1973.

With Ewing bringing decades of basketball knowledge and Brown leading the team from the bench, the partnership between Knicks history and the organization’s modern era gives supporters plenty to celebrate.

Ewing’s role as basketball ambassador allows him to remain connected to the franchise that became synonymous with his career. Rather than returning as a player, his experience can be part of the organization’s basketball and community activities.
