Newcastle United supporters have been left buzzing following reports circulating online claiming that Netflix is preparing a major documentary celebrating the extraordinary career of Magpies legend Alan Shearer.
However, despite the excitement surrounding the story, there has been no verified official announcement from Netflix confirming such a documentary or its alleged premiere date.
If the project were to become official, it would undoubtedly attract enormous attention. Shearer remains one of the most celebrated figures in Newcastle United history and is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.
A potential documentary could revisit the defining moments of his remarkable career — from his early days at Southampton and his title-winning spell with Blackburn Rovers to his unforgettable return home with Newcastle United.
The production could also explore Shearer’s record-breaking Premier League career, his England years, his captaincy, and the emotional relationship he developed with Newcastle supporters.
A Newcastle icon
Shearer’s connection with Newcastle goes far beyond statistics. He became the face of a generation of supporters and finished his playing career as the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer.
His legacy at St James’ Park has remained enormous long after his retirement, with his name continuing to be synonymous with Newcastle United.
Interestingly, Shearer has already appeared prominently in Newcastle’s documentary world. We Are Newcastle United, released on Prime Video in 2023, was narrated by Shearer and followed the club during its memorable 2022/23 campaign.
Netflix connection
Netflix has also recently featured Shearer as one of the hosts of The Rest Is Football, alongside Gary Lineker and Micah Richards. The programme brings the three football personalities together for analysis, interviews and football discussion.
That existing relationship has helped fuel speculation among supporters about whether a dedicated Shearer documentary could eventually arrive on the platform.
For now, however, fans should treat the alleged announcement and premiere date circulating on social media as unconfirmed until Netflix or Shearer officially provides details.
If Netflix does eventually announce a full career documentary, it could become one of the most anticipated football documentaries for Newcastle supporters worldwide.
