Netflix has confirmed Alan Shearer as part of its football programming, with the Newcastle United legend appearing in The Rest Is Football alongside Gary Lineker and Micah Richards.
The announcement has generated excitement among football supporters, particularly Newcastle United fans, who have long celebrated Shearer as one of the greatest players in the club’s history. The documentary-style coverage is expected to give viewers a closer look at Shearer’s remarkable playing career, his unforgettable goals, his time at St James’ Park and his journey from elite striker to one of football’s most respected voices.
Netflix’s current confirmed Alan Shearer project is The Rest Is Football, rather than a standalone Shearer career documentary. The show began streaming on Netflix during the 2026 World Cup, with new episodes continuing through the 2026/27 football season.
For Newcastle supporters, the prospect of seeing more of Shearer’s story on Netflix is another opportunity to celebrate the legacy of the club’s legendary No. 9 and his extraordinary contribution to English football.
