Grimes has become an important figure

by in Coventry’s remarkable return to the Premier League. After joining the Sky Blues from Swansea City in January 2025, he played a key role in the club’s successful Championship campaign and captained the side during its promotion-winning season.

However, the claim that Grimes has officially been appointed to a new senior position has not been confirmed by Coventry City or a reliable official source. Current reports continue to identify him as a Coventry City midfielder and captain, with his contract running into 2028.

Dennis Mortimer remains a highly respected figure in Coventry’s history. He came through the club’s youth system and made nearly 200 appearances for Coventry before later becoming Aston Villa captain and lifting the European Cup in 1982.

If a future announcement does see Grimes take on a senior position away from playing, it would represent another fascinating chapter in his Coventry story. For now, though, supporters should treat the circulating announcement as unverified and wait for confirmation from the club.
