McRae, affectionately known as “Fly,” has established himself as one of the most respected coaches in the AFL since taking charge of Collingwood ahead of the 2022 season. His biggest achievement came in 2023 when he guided the Magpies to an AFL premiership, defeating the Brisbane Lions by four points in a thrilling Grand Final.

The latest confirmed contract information, however, shows that McRae is currently contracted with Collingwood until the end of the 2028 season. The club announced a two-year extension in December 2025, reflecting its confidence in his leadership and long-term vision.

That has made the reported claim of a new contract running through 2031 particularly significant—but at this stage, there is no reliable confirmation that such an extension has been officially announced by Collingwood.

A deal extending McRae’s tenure to 2031 would represent a major show of faith from the Magpies and would give the coach considerable security as he continues building the next generation of Collingwood stars.

McRae’s tenure has already produced significant success. Beyond the 2023 premiership, his coaching philosophy has focused heavily on team connection, resilience, development and maintaining a strong relationship between players, staff and supporters.

For Collingwood fans, any genuine announcement of a long-term extension would therefore be major news. It would signal that the club believes McRae remains the right person to lead the team through its next phase and compete for further premiership success.
