CAPTAIN’S MESSAGE: Ethan Ampadu Sends Powerful Warning to Leeds United Teammates Ahead of the New Premier League Campaign
Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu has delivered a strong message to his teammates as the club prepares for another demanding

Premier League campaign, insisting that last season’s achievements must be treated as a foundation rather than a finish line.

Ampadu has emerged as one of the most important leaders at Elland Road since joining Leeds from Chelsea in 2023. He was named club captain in July 2024 and has since helped lead the Whites through promotion and their return to the Premier League.

The Welsh international’s latest message comes at an important moment. Leeds successfully secured Premier League survival in 2025/26 and finished 14th with 47 points, but Ampadu has made it clear that the team cannot afford to become comfortable.

Speaking after returning for pre-season preparations, Ampadu stressed the importance of maintaining high standards. He explained that while players should appreciate what they achieved, they must also immediately focus on what comes next.

“It’s one of those where you reflect, but you also want to build,” Ampadu said, highlighting the need to find the right balance between celebrating progress and demanding further improvement.

That attitude could become one of Leeds’ biggest strengths heading into the new campaign.

The 25-year-old midfielder has already experienced the responsibility of leading the club through difficult moments. Last season, he made 39 appearances and was named both Leeds United Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year, underlining his influence inside the dressing room and on the pitch.

Ampadu’s warning is therefore not simply about tactics or fitness. It is about mentality.

Leeds cannot expect the new season to be easier simply because they survived their first campaign back in the top flight. The Premier League remains brutally competitive, and every small drop in concentration can have major consequences.

The captain has already shown that he understands this reality. When Leeds confirmed their survival, he praised the team’s determination but immediately stressed that the club wanted to achieve more. He also spoke about the importance of using the experience gained during the campaign to build a stronger future.

That message is particularly significant for the younger members of the squad.

Ampadu wants everyone to understand that wearing the Leeds United shirt carries enormous responsibility. His own leadership style has been based on setting an example through commitment, discipline and consistency rather than simply giving instructions.

The captain’s long-term future is also secure. In June, Leeds confirmed that Ampadu had signed a new four-year contract keeping him at Elland Road until 2030.

That commitment makes his message even more meaningful. Ampadu is not looking at Leeds as a short-term project. He wants to be part of the club’s development and help establish the Whites as a competitive Premier League side.

For Leeds supporters, that will be encouraging.

The captain knows that expectations are rising. Survival was the priority last season, but after accomplishing that objective, the next challenge is to improve the club’s league position and compete with greater consistency.

Ampadu’s message to his teammates can therefore be summed up simply: do not relax, do not settle and do not forget how much work it took to get here.

With pre-season underway and a new Premier League campaign approaching, Leeds will need every player to embrace that mentality.

If Ampadu can continue leading from the front, the Whites will hope his determination can inspire another step forward—and perhaps turn survival into something much more ambitious.
